Support the Artists In Residence (AIR) Program at Sins Invalid

Sins Invalid's Resident Alien showDear Friends and Supporters:Emerging artists with disabilities need your support.Sins Invalid is launching an effort to raise $6,000 for our brand new Artists In Residence (AIR) Program, which is hosting its culminating performance, “Resident Alien,” on January 28th and 29th at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts in San Francisco.  We hope that you will consider making a donation to this unique program, which offers a significant development opportunity to artists with disabilities who want to create work around sexuality, disability and social justice. We need your support to make this performance happen. The Artists In Residence have worked for nine months to incubate, develop, and produce this performance, with skill-building and visioning workshops, artistic collaborations, and one-on-one mentoring.  AIR Coordinator Nomy Lamm, a Bay Area performer, writer and vocal coach, selected participants based on the quality of their work, and their passion for developing a concept into a stage-ready performance.  The participants are: Chun-Shan (Sandie) Yi, Colleen Nagle, Edana Contreras, Fayza Bundalli, Matthew Blanchard, Lateef McLeod, Redwolf Painter, and Tee.  The eight artists represent a wide range of disabilities and artistic disciplines, and are all LGBTQ and/or people of color.  “Resident Alien” includes music, spoken word, photography, film, performance art, and wearable sculpture, exploring imagination, hospitalization, our bodies, and the land we live on.As an organization led by people with disabilities, Sins Invalid offers a uniquely accessible, supportive and generative space for emerging disabled artists, which is offered nowhere else. We also prioritize accessibility for a diverse audience, which means budgeting for important adaptations like ASL Interpretation and Audio Describing.  Other funds raised will cover transportation costs, production needs, and artists’ fees.Your support is vital to the success of the Artists In Residence program.  We have worked hard on this performance, and look forward to sharing our work with you, our community.  We hope that with your support, programs such as the Sins Invalid Artists In Residence program will continue to provide unique spaces for emerging disabled artists to incubate their work.  We look forward to seeing you January 28th and 29th at the Mission Cultural Center!  And please consider making a donation today! To make a tax deductible donation, please go to http://sinsinvalid.org/donate.html.  Once redirected to our fiscal sponsor please select “Sins Invalid” and be sure to note in the MEMO: “AIR PROGRAM.” To mail your donations, please make checks payable to our fiscal sponsor "Dancers' Group" with "Sins Invalid AIR" in the memo line.
