Understanding and Transforming the Medical Industrial Complex

Offered by the Health Justice Commons

As the tides of US fascism rise, US healthcare is increasingly failing or turning against our communities. This is a crucial time for understanding and transforming the Medical Industrial Complex.

This course digs deep to expose the hidden histories of white supremacy, hetero-patriarchy, and ableism at the roots of the Medical Industrial Complex (MIC).

It enables participants to understand the inextricable yet invisibilized interconnections of healthcare institutions with corporate polluters, big pharma, health insurers, agribusinesses, and poorly regulated governmental bodies, providing a foundation to understand and critique the ongoing impacts of systemic racism, sexism, ableism, fatphobia, transphobia, and heterosexism in the US healthcare today. This course also offers tools for uniting in solidarity and creating alternatives.

FEATURING GUEST PRESENTER DR. RUHA BENJAMIN, author of Race After Technology and People’s Science!!
