Imagining Change Film Series -- Sins Invalid: An Unshamed Claim to Beauty

Imagining Change: Film and Dialogue Series. The focus of this event will be on disability, race, sexuality, and performance.

About this Event

Join us for a screening of the Sins Invalid documentary, Sins Invalid: An Unshamed Claim to Beauty.

REGISTER HERE

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Amanda Apgar (LMU), Mana Hayakawa (UCLA), Quinn O'Connor (UCLA Disabled Student Union), and Nomy Lamm from Sins Invalid.

About the film (runtime 32 minutes): Since 2006, Sins Invalid has been celebrating artists with disabilities, centralizing artists of color and queer and gender-variant artists. Performances by Sins Invalid have explored themes of sexuality, beauty, and the disabled body.

This film will be closed captioned and audio described. Live transcription will be available for the Q&A.

This documentary contains a couple performances of violence (a beating, a sexual assault). The discussion and Q&A will engage with the documentary’s content and may be emotionally and intellectually challenging to engage with. We will do our best to make this a space where we can engage bravely, empathetically and thoughtfully with difficult content.

Registrants will receive an email with the event Zoom link before the event.

"Imagining Change" is a virtual series sponsored by Repair, the Saks Institute for Mental Health Law, Policy & Ethics at USC Gould School of Law and UCLA Disability Studies.

As we navigate urgent public health, racial and economic challenges, we recognize a continuing need for education and dialogue about vital social questions. "Imagining Change: Film and Dialogue About Disability, Racism, Violence, Gender and Power" engages issues of disability, race and racism, healthcare, violence, policing and incarceration, economic justice, law and policy, gender and sexual politics, protest, and social change.

This is the second event in the series, "Imagining Change: Film and Dialogue About Disability, Racism, Violence, Gender and Power".

Image Description: Blue background with a reel of film unraveling. On the right, the film strip has light breaking through it and highlighting the words "Imagining Change". On the top left in a smaller font are the words "A film series on disability, race, mental health, policing, social change, and more".
