Episode 2: Crip Resilience is Nature's Brilliance
Into the Crip Universe: Cripping the Anthropocene by Sins Invalid
Season 1, Episode 2: Crip Resilience is Nature’s Brilliance
Guest: Sofia Webster
Host: Rafi Ruffino Darrow
Description:
Our planet has reached a toxic tipping point where the chemicals we produce are harming our bodies, communities, and ecosystems. Climate change is also increasing our exposure to diseases. We explore environmental racism and ableism, i.e. how and why environmental illness/injury is most impacting marginalized communities, including BIPOC, incarcerated people, and disabled people. Sofia and Rafi explore their own experiences with environmental illness/injury. Then we end with a fun discussion about why quails are awesome.

Show Notes:
In our Crip universe, there exist different speech, communication, and breathing patterns. To honor these differences, we have made the conscious decision to not edit out any pauses or lapses in conversation that may traditionally be edited out in other media. You might hear ventilators, assistive devices, and/or mobility devices in the background, and at times have to turn your volume up to hear the brilliant wisdom of our disabled host or guests.

A digital illustration of a purple earth surrounded by a purple haze and space junk. Over a blended pale blue and green background, dark blue text reads “Into the Crip Universe.” Around it float a light blue and pink respirator mask, a wheelchair with flames shooting from its wheels, and an open prescription bottle with three light purple pills. The Sins Invalid logo is in the lower right corner.
